Kaguya-sama Love is War is one of the best animes I had seen this year.

Such big words from me. Well, it deserves it.

I knew about Kaguya-sama series even before its anime debut. A friend of mine recommend it to me, saying that its manga is hilarious. I decided to read it and fast forward to today, I am still reading it. IT’S REALLY GOOD.

So, when an anime adaptation was announced, I was both ecstatic and scared. Ecstatic because more people would know about the existence of this series, but scared, because there’s a possibility that the anime would be bad.

Thank God, it wasn’t!!!!

Kaguya-sama Love is War anime was Amazing!-1

At the renowned Shuchiin Academy, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya are the student body’s top representatives. Ranked the top student in the nation and respected by peers and mentors alike, Miyuki serves as the student council president. Alongside him, the vice president Kaguya—eldest daughter of the wealthy Shinomiya family—excels in every field imaginable. They are the envy of the entire student body, regarded as the perfect couple.

However, despite both having already developed feelings for the other, neither are willing to admit them. The first to confess loses, will be looked down upon, and will be considered the lesser. With their honor and pride at stake, Miyuki and Kaguya are both equally determined to be the one to emerge victorious on the battlefield of love!

Again, Kaguya-sama Love is War anime is one of the best anime I had seen this year. Not only it’s the best-adapted series, but its also one of the best consistent series released this year.

How did I get to this conclusion?

Well, first things first…the source material was already amazing, to begin with. I mean, it’s one of the most popular romantic comedy manga right now. Nothing could compare to it, well, in my opinion, of course.

Yeah, I’m pretty much bias at this point.

Move on.

Like I said above, I had mixed feelings with its adaptation. With the recent mediocre manga adaptations, it got me really worried. Good thing, A-1 Pictures delivered tremendously. Not only they adapted this series really well, animation-wise, but the performance of the chosen voice actors for the cast was also top-notch. As a fan, I am very pleased.

Kaguya-sama Love is War anime was Amazing!-2

What made this series amazing was its premise. Believe me, it’s not really original, a love-hate relationship between the two main protagonists is sooooo common. But it was its execution that made this series stand out and be adored by many. Who knew that making both protagonists try their hardest to win over each other and force the other person to confess FIRST would be hella funny. The main cast goes through a lot of bizarrely realistic situations and struggles greatly on overcoming them, which results in heavy laughs from us, the viewers. This is definitely one of a kind.

With that said, to be able to maintain its amazing streak every week, proper and consistent pacing is needed for the series to work. Good thing, there were no hiccups in this section. Other than few and short forgettable in-between arcs, the series was stable. I won’t deny that some of the in-between arcs were a bit “meh”, but they still served some purpose. They were needed to fill up the empty spaces in between amazing arcs. It would be suffocating to the viewers if all of the arcs were very detailed and intriguing, the “meh” mini-arcs served as buffers and a breather. I greatly appreciate them as they also added some layers to the development of the characters of the series.

Now that I shared my thoughts on that, let’s proceed to the characters.

Oh man, where should I start? All of the characters were memorable and very interesting. Even the lesser supporting characters were at least funny to watch even though they had few scenes in the series. It just shows how well made the source material of this series is.

My favorite character of the series is, of course, Kaguya. Not only because her name was in the title, but it was because I can relate to her personality. I am not as smart as her and I don’t like joining clubs, but her trait to be “always be prepared and ahead of everyone else” in terms with planning and decisions, damn, I can relate. My mind works the same way as her, not only to the one I like but mostly with everything. It’s funny and embarrassing to see it on screen, hahahahahaha. But what made me love her more was when we got a glimpse of her past and her struggles. She had it rough even though on the outside, it seemed she has enough, I want to protecc her.

Kaguya-sama Love is War anime was Amazing!-5

The other main characters had their moments too but its quite clear that the anime favors Kaguya, still, each main character left a mark to the series that it excites me to see more of them in the future.

For the animation, like I said above, A-1 Pictures actually delivered. Not only they made the series really better through the accurate character designs and background art, but also through the added exaggerated reactions and moments that could only be pulled off in an anime, and not in a manga. So good!!!

Still, this anime wasn’t able to escape a few issues from people.

While this series was still airing, I could remember people complaining about the narrator, as they were not used to it and they proclaim that it made the series bad instead. In my opinion, it’s actually the opposite. When it comes to reading the source material, we tend to use our voice unconsciously while reading the dialogue bubbles and boxes in the manga. So it is reasonable for some to feel weird hearing a manly voice narrating instead of their head voice. But I could never agree when people say that the narrator’s manly voice made the series bad, it actually made the series a lot funnier and wholesome, as not only the voice actors were on point in portraying the characters of the series, but the narrator said the lines perfectly with the right emotion needed. It made everything a lot better.

Well, that’s just my opinion.

Anyway, time to conclude.

Overall, this series is amazing. One of the best anime this year. From its story to the animation, everything was on point, it’s astonishing to watch it.

As a fan of the source material, again, I am very pleased with this adaptation. I hope more and more adaptation would be as good as this.

Totally recommended.

Yaaaayyy!!!

After few days of break from blogging, here I am with a new entry. Yes, I know I said I won’t be only releasing anime content, but you can’t blame me for watching a lot of animes lately. I will also release a lot more new content other than animes soon, I just need time and mood to make them.

Heh.
