Reading Time: 4 minutes

I’m not much of a fan of horror-ish animes. They don’t feel like they represent the horror genre properly. They are alot more inclined on the other different genres like mystery or suspense, never the horror. One of those failed attempts would be Red Garden.
Red Garden is definitely not a bad anime, its actually a good one. With a horror-themed story, this anime focused more on the mystery aspect, tryin’ to find answers for their existence and the problems connected to the day they died.
Here are my thoughts of the series:

Synopsis: Strange suicides have been taking place in New York. One day, four girls from the same high school wake up in the morning feeling tired and dizzy and not being able to remember anything about the previous night. In school, they find out that one of their classmates has committed suicide. School is canceled for the rest of the day, but instead of going home, the girls are drawn to a park by butterflies only they can see. Suddenly a man and a woman approach the girls, telling them that they all died the previous night. (MAL)

My Thoughts:
Red Garden was one of the unique animes I had watched recently…well visually. I kinda know that in the 2000’s, most of the animes released tend to go the edgier and mature art & animation, and definitely this is one of them. Red Garden caught me off guard. I didn’t expect I would enjoy watching it. It was a surreal experience.

The anime was about 4 girls who died yesterday, woke up not remembering what happened. Little did they know they kinda become like an immortal human beings. And….thats just the start of the story. There’s so many plot twists and turns of this series that made me intrigued. Each story arc doesn’t feel out of placed, but are connected to the main plot. It’s not fast paced but I’m sure there wasn’t a dull moment in the series. It does get confusing at times, but everything would be answered in the end.

The characters were both likeable and annoying at the same time. Its not like I hate them or anything, its just that some of them are stupid and I kinda hate that part. I do like the how the girls stick with one another until the very end, they only have each other after all. Even though each of them once lived a different lifestyle, they were able to find friendship with each other even after their common friend was out of the picture. It was nice.

The art & animation sure is different from what I’m used to. Its very mature, and I don’t see any moe in this series at all. This anime reminds me alot of Hellsing and some 2000’s anime I forgot the title, LOL. The art and animation was outdated, sometimes it was hard to look at the screen cuz of its horrible animation. Still, it didn’t affect my watching.

Overall, I really really liked this series. Its really good and enjoyable to watch. Watching this series made me want to watch more old 2000’s animes. They are that good.

I do recommend this to people who likes suspense & mystery animes. Definitely a must watch to anime fans who likes to watch old animes.

Anyway, that is all for now.
Thanks for reading!

  1. You have caught my attention with this one. I’ve never heard of this one but sounds good. I don’t watch a lot of thriller stuff have to be in the right frame of mind 😆 cool post !!!!

  2. I tried to get into this anime. I actually like the premise but there’s so much yelling. I’m like “you’re standing right next to each other”.

  3. I’m watching this through right now! I’m enjoying but I gotta say – what the heck is up with their random singing????

    1. A way to cope up the stress of being undead I guess?? LEL.
Its never brought up in the end so it was never answered. But to be honest, you would forget that info of them randomly singing…once you encounter the twists and turns of the story XD

      1. haha! yeah I’m only about halfway through and it’s getting wild, but every time they sing I forget that that’s a Thing they do I get really confused lmao

  4. Definitely going to add this to my planned to watch list. I’m much more of a Mystery fan than a Horror fan anyway. Thanks for the review, it looks like a potential hidden gem and I hope I’ll see it as such as well.
