Reading Time: 3 minutesFrom JDorama to Koreanovela. My mood for watching tv series haven’t dried up yet, so I watched a lot of it.
As you can see, the title is quite misleading. When I first encountered this series, I really thought they made a series about Girls’ Generation. Lel, it wasn’t. At least it was a decent show and was able to finish watching this in one go. Its quite short compared to the other korean dramas (only 8 episodes), so I had no problems binge watching it.
Anyway, here’s my thoughts:

Drama: Girls’ Generation 1979 (English title) / Lingerie Girls’ Generation (literal title)
Revised romanization: Lanjeri Sonyeoshidae
Hangul: 란제리 소녀시대
Director: Hong Seok-Ku
Writer: Kim Yong-Hee (novel), Yoon Kyung-Ah
Producer: Moon Joon-Ha
Network: KBS2
Episodes: 8
Release Date: September 11 – October 3, 2017
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Starring: Bona (Cosmic Girls), Chae So jin, Seo Young joo, Lee Jong Hyun (CN Blue), Yeo Hoi Hyeon, Min Do Hee, etc.
Synopsis: Story is set in Daegu, South Korea during the 1970’s. Lee Jung-Hee is in the 2nd grade of high school. She has a bright personality and is the second daughter of a family who runs a underwear factory. She and her friends go through adolescence.

My Thoughts:

If you are a fan of the Reply series, then you won’t be disappointed by this series. Like the Reply series, this show was set in the 70’s.

The story was really simple, and it was delivered really well. It impacted me in a way that it gave me an idea what was like in the 70’s in Korea. The storytelling was straight to the point, it was a smooth ride from the start to the finish. The story shed light on the notable problems during the old times: conservative & narrow-minded people, women are inferior compared to men, adults are correct and knows more, discrimination, etc. It was refreshing to watch. Those problems can still be seen today, but at least its more controlled and contained. The struggle of the main characters was really realistic in a way, I could really imagine the youngsters in the 70’s era suffering to this problems. Their struggles can resonate well with the youngsters of today, as they also experience a kinda not so kinda similar situations. Anyway, moving on.

It wasn’t just the story that was interesting and intriguing, also the characters, I mean, there are the reason why this series is really good. Each character is very distinct and it kinda follow some certain personality but they are also more than that. Each character can be seen as a human, a real person, it was that realistic. Kudos to the actors & actresses playing their roles. They did well in performing their roles, no one stand out as bad one. I really really like all of them, though I kinda have a hit or miss relationship with Son Jin. He’s kinda shallow compared to other characters. We do get some stuff about it, but his character itself is kinda dull, thats why I find him shallow. I’m interested to know more about Ae-Sook’s backstory, but cuz of limited time and limited spotlight for this character, Ae-Sook did grow much as I wanted her to. Hands down, Jung-Hee is BEST GIRL. At first, I admit, I was kinda annoyed by her. But the way she thinks, and her actions is so relatable and understandable. She’s just thinkin’ and acting according to her age. Her friendship with Hye-Joo is so precious. I wish there were more moments of them together, cuz there moments were too short for me. Jung Hee’s relationship with Dong Moon is SO CUTE. I can’t. It reminded me alot of my old memories with my bff, but yeah, mine is pure friendship no romance. Lel. Both Jung Hee & Dong Moon looked really cute together and I want to see more of them.

Overall, this series is really worth it. Those 8 episodes were definitely worth it. I wish it was longer, it deserves atleast 12-16 episodes. Anyway, I definitely recommend this to everyone, especially to the people who likes to watch the Reply series. You won’t regret watching this.

That is all.

Thanks for reading.
