Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? episode 2
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Lol.

Hi! Sirius here.

I recently released my thoughts on the first episode of Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? a few minutes ago when I learned that the 2nd episode was released just a few hours ago. Hahahahahah.

I decided to watch it and give my thoughts on it, while the premise of the first episode is still very very fresh in my mind.

The world where the Hero and the Demon King continue to oppose each other. The grand magic from the Hero and the Demon King cross over worlds and exploded in the classroom of a certain high school.

The students who died in the explosion will be reincarnated in a different world. The protagonist, who has the lowest reputation in the class, was reincarnated into a spider. Nevertheless, she adapted quickly to the present condition with strong willpower.

This is a story of she who has become a spider trying whatever she can to live. (MAL)

Oooohhhh this 2nd episode is juicy.

Like in the first episode, we got another intro flashback to the past where we got to see more of our protagonist’s highschool grim life. And damn the bullies.

After the opening, we are seeing the human lead characters again at school. My curiosity as to how the lead characters got their current form in this new world continues to linger in my mind, especially now that I know that the bully from our MC’s past was the current earth dragon pet of Schlain. Intriguingly, the earth dragon, Feirune, seemed to think her current appearance was a result of bad karma. I might be inclined to agree with that sentiment, as we don’t know much yet about the issue.

But then, we have our MC, she’s a freakin’ spider. What the f did she do in the human world to be reincarnated as a spider in this new world?

Speaking of our MC, all throughout the episode, we continue to see her grow accustomed to her life as a spider. She gained more experience and skills while killing monsters. It was so nice to see her growth, like literally. Also, her personality, damn, she’s so hilarious.

When that automatic speaker told her about her upgrade and it was a bit too fast for her that she felt like she missed something important, I literally had the same reaction. LOL. Good thing for me as I can rewind back to listen to it again. Hhahahahaha.

Unlike the first episode, we were able to see more of our MC’s struggle as a spider. She then reflects on her previous life and gave us an insight into how f up her life was. It made me sad that she had to go through that, but it’s also empowering to see her turn her mindset from negative to hopeful. She won’t give up and kept on trying, to not anymore run away.

And damn, she succeeded in the end.

That last fight in the episode was really epic and a new feat.

Interestingly, it seemed we are going to see a new look at our MC. Can’t wait to see it.

Before I end this review, I want to share my thoughts about the art and animation of this anime. I usually don’t want to talk much about this as it’s still in the early stages of the anime, but its animation sure likes to standout and sometimes rubs me the wrong way.

Don’t get me wrong, this anime looks good. It is not stiff and the character designs are really solid. I guess my problem with this is the mix of 3D and 2D animation. Yes, some scenes do look good, but majority of the time, it’s not that good. I am not expecting this anime to have the same level as what Studio Orange does, but I just want to point out how the bad mix sometimes put me off from my watching.

I still love this episode, though.

This definitely made me look forward for the next episode.
