Synopsis: In a world of constant war between humans and witches, there exist the “beastfallen”—cursed humans born with the appearance and strength of an animal. Their physical prowess and bestial nature cause them to be feared and shunned by both humans and witches. As a result, many beastfallen become sellswords, making their living through hunting witches.

Despite the enmity between the races, a lighthearted witch named Zero enlists a beastfallen whom she refers to as “Mercenary” to act as her protector. He travels with Zero and Albus, a young magician, on their search for the Grimoire of Zero: a powerful spell book that could be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. During their journey, his inner kindness is revealed as he starts to show compassion and sympathy towards humans and witches alike, and the unlikely companions grow together.

My Thoughts:

Damn, such a waste.

Why…am I still watching this?

This question keeps on coming back again and again on my head, after watching the 3rd episode.

Like any other anime that is a light novel and has a genre of fantasy, magic, adventure, it had a simple but kinda-generic plot. But still, it had potential. I actually thought this anime would be a dark horse last spring, sigh, I was so so wrong. I now understand why this anime was sleep on earlier this year.

This anime was a trainwreck. Yeee, that is my simple conclusion to this anime. Why did I gave this anime a shot after the 3rd episode?!?!? Well, a part of me wants to know how would this awesome turned generic fantasy anime would end. Another part of me had hope that maybe, just maybe, it would be better on the later episodes. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment.

Like I said above, this anime had a interesting plot. A human beast who dislikes witches, signed a contract with a powerful witch, Zero, who seeks his help in finding her Grimoire and in exchange, turned him into human. I had been watching alot of animes and read alot of books related to fantasy, magic & adventure stories for a long time, I pretty much know that this anime had what it takes to be a really good anime. But what I got was a generic piece of trash. Okay, Sorry for my harsh words, its just that, this is unacceptable. The first 2 episodes was still acceptable at best. But, wtf did just happen?!?!? Worldbuilding??!? What is that? Thats not important in this series, like not at all. It felt like it was thrown out of the window. It felt like they keep on giving excuses to justify the ‘worldbuilding’ they already established in the earlier episodes. Wut.

Anyway, proceed. I think the only thing I liked about the series was the pacing and flow of the story. At least, that part was done right. The rest, sigh, its not even worth talking about.

The characters. Uuugggghhhhh. No depth, everyone. No depth. Each character had no depth, it was painful to watch. Their personalities and traits wasn’t consistent, and damn, I can’t even count how many times I faced palm cuz of their choices and drastic change of hearts. It was mindblowing no matter how much I think about it. Sigh.

Along with the good pacing, the other thing I liked from the series was the art & animation. It was consistent. Though I did question the wardrobe of Zero & Albus (they don’t fit the era & age). Zero looks like a cosplayer or a ‘mage’ from a fantasy game, while Albus, wtf is she wearing??! Tracksuits!?!?!? Really!?!?!? Why!?!?!?!

As you can see, I pretty much furious about this series. So, I don’t I can recommend this to anyone. Lol. Unless, you like generic stuff, give it a go. I have no problem with that idea of yours.

I think I’m calm now.

That is all.

Thanks for reading my rant, I mean my review (is this even one?!?!).
