Yeah. I was able to watch a trash anime movie before this year ends. Awesome.
I heard quite alot of mixed (mostly negative) reviews about this movie, so I was a bit skeptical. But I still watched it anyway. Lol.
Here is my review:
SWORD ART ONLINE MOVIE: ORDINAL SCALE
Status: Finished Airing
Aired: Feb 18, 2017
Studios: A-1 Pictures
Source: Light novel
Genres: Action, Game, Adventure, Romance, Fantasy
Duration: 1 hr. 59 min.
Rating: PG-13 – Teens 13 or older
Synopsis: In 2026, four years after the infamous Sword Art Online incident, a revolutionary new form of technology has emerged: the Augma, a device that utilizes an Augmented Reality system. Unlike the Virtual Reality of the NerveGear and the Amusphere, it is perfectly safe and allows players to use it while they are conscious, creating an instant hit on the market. The most popular application for the Augma is the game Ordinal Scale, which immerses players in a fantasy role-playing game with player rankings and rewards.
Following the new craze, Kirito’s friends dive into the game, and despite his reservations about the system, Kirito eventually joins them. While at first it appears to be just fun and games, they soon find out that the game is not all that it seems… (MAL)
I had always enjoyed watching SAO since the very beginning, so its kinda a no brainer to me that I should also watch the movie. Actually, my brother is an avid fan of SAO, so yeah, in a way, its inevitable. Hhhmmm…the movie was definitely a Sword Art Online Movie. Lol. I’m not making any sense. What I meant was that even though this movie was kinda original, the movie still felt like a its canon to the main story. At least, I like that part of the movie.
Story-wise, the movie was interesting. It had an intriguing and ambitious plot. But it also had some flaws. All throughout the movie, my mind pretty much was collecting alot of questions while watching and most of them were unanswered. Like I said, the story was quite ambitious, but it still fell short on making it more solid and believable. But what can I say? This is SAO movie, of course theres going to be plotholes. Lol.
Visual-wise, of course its impressive. Its quite clear that the production had a huge budget, the movie was pleasing in the eyes. The character designs remained the same but they also look sophisticated. The fighting scenes were still flashy as always, everything was done well.
As for the characters, there was too many of them. Its like the creators made sure to include everyone in the movie, even though its unnecessary. It felt a little bit too much. Cuz of this, there wasn’t much development on their part. On the other hand, Kirito and Asuna were the opposite. Ever since I watched SAO, I always liked watching Asuna in fighting/badass mode. Seeing her in that mode again in the movie, damn, it was a delight. I also liked the fact that Kirito didn’t looked overpowered in the beginning of the story. He was really weak, and I like it. Though, all those stuff turned upside down in the second half of the movie. Sigh. Asuna became powerless, then Kirito became OP….again. The villain in the movie wasn’t even scary or terrifying. Even though they added some info about his ‘purpose’, it was still a lacking. Same old, same old. This movie was indeed a SAO movie.
Overall, this movie was okay. Its watchable, at least.
If you are a fan of SAO, this is a must watch. If you are not, no pressure bruh. It depends on you if you want to watch this or not.
That is all.
Thanks for reading!
PS: Asuna’s nipples couldn’t save this movie.
