I…am…disappointed.
I expected this anime to be better than I expected, but what did I get? A mess.
Sigh.
I shouldn’t have hoped too much.
No wonder it seems this series became an after thought or people just forget that this anime even exist.
Anyway, here’s my thoughts:

In 1939 C.E., the imperialist nation of Germania invaded a neighboring country. All at once, that war spread throughout Europe, and the era was dragged into a spiral of a great war.
Then, in 1940, Germania’s attack turned towards the Principality of Elystadt, a small Alpine country abundant with beautiful water and greenery.

My Thoughts:
Shuumatsu no Izetta was one of my fave during my first impression during the Fall of 2016. Little did I know it would become a mess later on. The first episode blew me away. It had so much potential…but…but….sigh.

During the Fall 2016, the anime line-up were composed of the hyped Yuri on Ice, the Haikyuu S3, 3-gatsu no lion, Hibike Euphonium S2, & many more. I did watch most of the hyped animes (especially Hibike Euphonium….its a must), but I was looking for a new story to blew me away. Then I discovered this anime and Flip Flappers. I will discuss Flip Flappers again next time, after I finish rewatching and understanding it more fully.

Anyway, Shuumatsu no Izetta had everything laid out in the first episode and it was very attractive. It was set in an AU of WWII, with the existence of magic. One more thing, the yuri vibes was so strong! Hence, I freakin’ looked forward to watch this series every week. The next couple episodes were…uuhhh…not that enticing as the first, but I was kept on the edge cause of the action. But I felt like the plot of the story wasn’t as strong as I thought it would be, especially around the time they introduced another witch. Uuuuhhhh….Why? Uuuugggghhhh… Let me be a bit coherent with my thoughts and feelings. The concept of war & magic is so awesome when you think about it, the idea itself is enticing and very interesting. But the execution, the plot, the story to support that idea/concept needs to be enticing and interesting too. That’s what was lacking in this series. I gave this anime too many chances, just to at least show me that this series would be good, but it never did. Such a shame.

Okay, this entry is a bit on the negative side now, let’s lighten it up. Even though the story was very weak, I enjoyed watching this series because of the characters, music and the animation.

The characters were really likeable, especially the main duo, Izetta and the Princess, damn I ship them HARD. To be honest, I didn’t expect Princes would be BADASS, I mean, she is the princess. I was expecting her to be the ‘damsel in distress’ or the girly one, while the witch, would be the masculine or the one who protects the princess. I was clearly taken aback by the switch of roles but I definitely love it. The other characters were kinda bland and generic but I don’t mind. They were interesting enough for me not to dislike/hate them.

I really really like the music. From the OP/ED to the background music, I LOVE IT. I do have the soundtrack on my music playlists here on my Mac. Hehhehehe. The music score is so soothing in my ears. Each song in the soundtrack is worthy of praise. Each of them gives colour to the scenes and moments in the series. Even though the story was severely lacking, I almost don’t care anymore cuz of the bgm. It’s that good. And bruh, the OP & ED is……uuuggghhhh…perfection. The OP definitely blasts my ears and gives me feels. It always gives me welcome and I could never skip it. The ED, on the other hand, is so soothing and melodramatic. Its definitely an opposite to the OP, but it delivers the feels of the whole episode. Its so soothing and mesmerising, you could feel the pain and sorrow just by listening to it. Definitely worth a listen.

Before I discuss my liking to the animation, let me address my disappointment with the art. The art all through out the series was really inconsistent and very generic. I was expecting more from this. I do like the character design, and it reminds me of Idolmaster series, dunno why. I do wish the art was a bit better. The animation though. I am all for the animation, especially the action scenes. Damn the hype. I pretty much didn’t mind the CG on some scenes. The superb action scenes and with the stellar bgm, my eyes were glued to the screen. It was visually appealing to me. I can’t even close my freakin’ mouth during the fights. It was awesome.

Overall, this series was a mess. A huge potential gone to waste. Still, it was enjoyable to watch, just don’t expect too much.

Anyway, that is all.
Thanks for reading.
