There’s a lot of animes I always wanted to watch but had forgotten. Shounen Maid was one of them.
To be honest, I was quite skeptical about this anime. In terms of its synopsis and poster, I really thought this anime would be a yaoi bait or something.
Bruh, I was wrong.
This anime…is really heartwarming and very wholesome.
Definitely not what I expected at all.
After the sudden death of his mother, elementary school student Chihiro Komiya is left with no home and no family. But this changes when he encounters a rich and frivolous stranger who turns out to be his long-lost uncle, Madoka Takatori. Madoka offers to take Chihiro in, but upon arriving at his uncle’s high-class mansion, the young boy is greeted by a plethora of dust and garbage. As Chihiro’s neatfreak instincts kick in, he sets about cleaning the entire residence.
Shounen Maid is a lighthearted comedy that follows Chihiro as he finds himself dressed in a frilly uniform (handmade by his uncle), receiving a salary, and working as maid of the house.
Shounen Maid blew me away.
The last time I enjoyed an anime that is similar to this was Sweetness and Lighting. So yeah, now, you guys have now an idea what this anime is.
Shounen Maid is a Slice-of-Life, comedy about a kid who just lost his mother and now, adjusting to his new life with his weird Uncle. This series is so wholesome, its quite shocking.
After seeing its 1st episode, I kinda got the vibes this series was something amazing. However, seeing the main character in a Maid outfit made me worried, as I don’t want this series to be tainted with any twists and gimmicks. Good thing, there wasn’t any.
The anime continues to be heartwarming and it gave me a lot of good vibes. I love it.
If I were to point out what I really like about the anime, it would be on how they handled grief.
At the start of the series, we see the characters facing the reality that Chiyo, Chihiro’s mom, and Madoka’s sister, had passed away. This event made Chihiro very vulnerable. Good thing he was able to meet Madoka and the MC’s life changed for the better.
Throughout the series, we get to see a glimpse of loneliness and sadness of the death of Chiyo, but they were more subtle as the series focused more on the lighthearted moments of the characters. Because of this, we never fully see the characters fully mourned and be very very sad, but we saw that smiling and have fun which helped the characters moved on and grow.
As much as I want to see the characters go all-in with negative emotions, I like how the story handled it, as it gave us some learnings and things to think about. Yes, losing someone is really sad and depressing, but we shouldn’t forget that we still have the opportunity to live and enjoy life. They may be gone, but that doesn’t mean we should stand still and not move on. With the help of people around us, we can look forward to a bright future, as that is what our loved ones wished for us.
Okay. I think I just made my post I bit too serious. Lol.
Let’s go back to the fun part.
One of the reasons why I never tried to watch this series was because I wanted to watch this on its highest quality, its Bluray. Lel, Yes I waited a long time just to get the BD because I knew this anime had good animation and I want to see it on its highest quality when binging.
And bruh, the animation didn’t disappoint.
Not only it had good animation, but it was also very stable all throughout the series. The character designs look cute as hell too, it was one of the reasons why I was captured by this.
Now for the music, I really like the OP song. It’s very catchy and it gave me good vibes before watching an episode. The ending, on the other hand, was disappointing. I am not a fan of it.
Overall, this series is really really good. Very heartwarming and good anime to consume for the soul. From its story to its animation, it won’t disappoint at all.
Definitely a recommendation to all people who are looking for animes similar to Sweetness and Lightning.
That is all for now.
