Yo! Sirius here!!
I can’t believe Quintessential Quintuplets or more widely known as Go-toubun no Hanayome just ended. Another beloved manga that I read is now complete. Oh man, what to do with my life?
Late last year, I made an anime review about this series. I expressed how much I adore the both the manga and its anime adaptation, but I kinda prefer the former over the latter.
In this post, I will be sharing with you guys why I love this manga series and its impact on me as a manga reader and a fan of harem romance.
Synopsis: Considered a genius, high schooler Fuutarou Uesugi excels at studying and obtains a perfect score on every test. Due to his intense focus on that regard, he is a reclusive person with no friends. Additionally, he lives in a tight financial state as a result of family debts.
Fuutarou’s mundane lifestyle is interrupted when Itsuki Nakano, a new transfer student, contests him for his usual lunch seat. After a short altercation, Fuutarou emerges victorious by insulting Itsuki’s eating habits, which angers her enough to leave. However, when Fuutarou learns that he has been offered the private tutor position of a wealthy family’s academically hopeless daughters, he immediately regrets his prior encounter. It turns out that the beneficiaries of his tutoring are none other than Itsuki and her four identical siblings: the shy Miku, the cheerful Yotsuba, the devious Nino, and the mature Ichika!
Teaching these quintuplets may prove more difficult for Fuutarou than he initially expected, as the last thing they want to do is seriously study. Now, Fuutarou must face the various challenges of tutoring five beautiful yet eccentric girls. (MAL)
Go-toubun no Hanayome has a special place in my heart. Not only it revived my adoration for the harem genre, but it was also one of the mangas that made me a reader once again.
I shared before in 2017 that I revived my manga reading. However, after a few months, specifically, at the time I started reviewing for my licensure exam, I dropped all of my mangas and focus on studying. It was around the last November, 2018, after my exams when I picked it up again.
I read a lot. From Kaguya-sama to series like Goblin Slayer.
I was hooked.
It was around the time when I was looking for manga series that was a bit popular and would give me the same enjoyment as Kaguya-sama when I discovered Go-toubun no Hanayome manga.
I could still remember how I find the premise really interesting while also thinking it would be a trash.
But nope, it was not.
It was something more, and that shocked me.
The story wasn’t just interesting, it was also really very attractive. Attractive in a way that I can’t seem to put it aside and just binge every single chapter released. From it’s art to it’s panels, it was beautifully made. I am no expert in drawing or art, but I can appreciate one, especially if it’s my cup of tea.
Definitely, the art of this manga blew me away.
Each characters were drawn well, their designs reflects each of their personalities and it made them standout in their own way. In a setting of having 5 girls with the same face, I couldn’t imagine the hardships the mangaka went through not to get confused. Still, what the mangaka made was very amazing to a point that the anime couldn’t even replicate.
Speaking of the characters, I mentioned before on my anime review who was my favorite. Yep, it’s Itsuki.
Just like what I said on the review, the characters of this series was one of the highlights and reasons why this popular. Through its thorough story, the manga was able to flesh out equally each of the main character. The mangaka made sure to let them shine or have a time in the spotlight, so that we could get to know them more.
As the main girls are quintuplets, all of them have the same physical appearances. However, just like any human, each one of them are unique in their own way. Just like what the twins’ grandfather said, all of them have their own habits and quirks. To be able to distinguish each one of them, you need to devote a lot of time to get to know them and love them for who they are. And that’s what Uesugi, and us, fans, did all through out the series.
As this is a romance series, specifically harem romance manga, there is always one main girl that would be chosen out of the harem. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my favorite.
Am I bitter? To be honest, yeah I was. For a bit.
I mean, in terms of compatibility and personality, Uesugi and Itsuki would be a really good pair. I mean, even in the last chapter, their chemistry was through the roof.
But yeah, she wasn’t chosen.
However, that doesn’t mean I don’t like the ending pairing.
I love the girl Uesugi chose. She’s my 2nd favorite out of all the sisters. However, it would have been nice if there were more moments of them together. I mean, they have a lot of scenes, yes. But in those moments, the chemistry was really through the roof. They act like friends. It would have been nice if there was more tension and excitement in their pairing.
That is why, I kind of understand the uproar of the fans when they learned about it. Can’t blame them though. I mean, we invested a lot of time on this manga, and out ship didn’t sail.
However, that doesn’t mean all of the best points of this manga should be taken for granted, juse because your ship didn’t sail.
The experience I felt reading this manga will never be replicated. After all, this manga series is one of the best harem mangas I read in a long time.
Definitely, a must read.
And with that, I can now move on to another manga series.
If you guys don’t know, the official release date of the 2nd season of the Go-toubun no Hanayome anime was known few weeks ago. And now that the manga series ended, I think the 2nd season will cover the rest of the remaining chapters.
As always, I will watch it.
As it’s still quite far, you guys can always check out the manga first if you guys want it.
Believe me when I say, this manga is really fun and I enjoyed it a lot.
So yeah, that would be all for now.
This has been Will Sirius and thanks for reading!!
