Ore ga Ojousama Gakkou ni "Shomin Sample" Toshite Gets♥Sareta Ken: After Thoughts

Reading Time: 5 minutes

I have a best friend who I consider as a bad influencer to my life. He even acknowledge that. LOL. Hahahahah, I love my bestie, but he sure recommend me questionable animes. XD

One of the animes he recommended was this anime, Shomin Sample. When this was released years ago, I immediately dismiss this as one of the typical ecchi harem I see thorugh out my lifetime. But for some point, my bestie keeps on recommending this anime again and again. It took me awhile before I take his recommendation seriously.

Without further ado, here’s my thoughts of his recommendation.

Synopsis:  Kimito Kagurazaka is a commoner with a fetish for men’s muscles—or at least that’s the lie he must keep telling if he wants to keep himself out of trouble at the elite all-girls school, Seikain Academy. Kidnapped by the school under the assumption that he prefers men, Kimito is made to be their “commoner sample,” exposing the girls to both commoner and man so that the transition to the world after school is not jarring. Threatened with castration should his sexual preferences not match the school’s assumptions, Kimito keeps up the facade to protect his manhood.
But there are eccentric individuals around every corner who begin to make Kimito’s life even more difficult. Among them are Aika Tenkuubashi, a social outcast who blurts out whatever comes to mind; Hakua Shiodome, a young genius; Karen Jinryou, the daughter of samurai who is obsessed with defeating Kimito; and Reiko Arisugawa, the perfect student who has delusions of marrying Kimito. Along with the commoner himself, these four girls make up the Commoner Club, which attempts to teach the girls more about life outside the school, while Kimito gradually learns about the odd girls surrounding him. My Thoughts:

Oh damn. I didn’t expect this….at all.

Compared to the usual ecchi harem animes that we see almost in every season, this one is very fun and different. Shomin Sample opens the series with the typical premise of an ecchi harem anime series, a guy getting enrolled in an all-girl school. But even with that common premise, its the characters (especially the main character) that made this series really unique. But before talking about the characters, lets talk about the generic but really fun story. The story follows Kimito, a normal commoner guy, being enrolled to a school full of over the top rich girls. In here, he met the main girls who were really weird and at the same time, very very interesting and intriguing. Each of them contributes to the story. They made the anime really fun. I mean, the storyline itself is basic, but its the things they do in every episodes and how the characters approach those situations that made this series really really fun to watch. I could proudly say that I had fun every time I finish an episode. Its that enjoyable.

I think I mentioned this quite a lot already, but yeah, the characters were the main reason as to why this series was so fun and enjoyable to watch. Each one of them were really interesting and hilarious, they complement with each other very well. Aika, the outcast girl brightens up the series by being so different and innocent at the same time, even though she’s supposed to be an “ojou-sama”. Reiko, the perfect representation of a princess. She is so popular and was very interested to the commoner culture. I really really like how she doesn’t hesitate to learn the commoners ways even though its very silly. Hakua, the bruh-she-is- the-same-age-as-others loli genius who undress herself whenever she unleashed her genius’…stuff. Karen, the samurai-ish lolicon who likes bunnies and for some point has special powers!?!?! Each one of them made the series really colorful and amazing. And bruh, let us not forget the amazing MC, Kimito, who is a commoner, and also the straight man for all the stupid things the main girls do. What makes him amazing is the fact that he is a main character of an ecchi harem but he doesn’t fit to the typical archetype of the protagonist. He is not really dense (he is actually smart, for me), he is not fazed whenever there’s a potential fanservice (unless its about the thighs….lel), and he is not stupid and unaware of his surroundings. He’s….amazing.

Another thing that I like the most of the series would be the nice, colorful art & animation. It fits well with the overall theme of the story. The color scheme is bright and lively, and it doesn’t hesitate to go dark when the story goes to ‘drama mode’. Its easy in the eyes. I do admit the character design is a bit moe (so its within my spectrum of likes), it might put off other people. Still, this series is definitely visually appealing.

I also want to point out how addicting the opening song was. It sound so generic but at the same time, its very catchy I even got LSS with it. The ending was okay and still generic, but I have no problems with it.

Overall, this series is really fun to watch. I really had a great time watching this one. Definitely, this series is like no other. I think I might listen more to what my bestie recommends, LOL.

Anyway, I recommend this one to people who likes to watch ecchi harem animes and was looking for something new. I also recommend this to everyone who wants to binge-watch something, this is definitely worth your time. It won’t disappoint.

Thanks for reading!!

I’m currently reading the Shomin Sample manga and it’s really really good! I’ll get to this show once I’m done with that but it’s cool to hear an opinion on this show from someone who doesn’t usually watch this type of show! Great review!
