Have you guys heard of the name, Oda Nobunaga?

He is quite a famous feudal lord of Japan a long long time ago. He tends to get featured in alot of animes: Nobunaga Concerto, Nobunaga the Fool, Drifters, Sengoku Basara series, etc. I watched most of the animes I just mentioned, that’s why in a way I’m abit familiar with his backstories.

Why am I talking about him? Well, I discovered another anime that is related to him, and that anime is Nobunagun.

Shio is revealed to also be an E-Gene Holder when the soul of Oda Nobunaga awakens after she tries to rescue a friend. (MAL)

This anime was released around the time when people are so engrossed with who’s the best girl in Nisekoi, the ‘amazingness’ of Noragami or was…uuuhhh…grossing out with Pupa. Even me, I didn’t know this anime even existed. It’s really weird.

I’m still trying to wrap my head on a fact that this anime, Nobunagun, was released on the same season as Mahou Sensou. I watched the latter, finished it, regretted that I even finished it, and until now, I’m still trying to erase its existence in my brain.

Anyway, let’s go back to the main course.

I watched Nobunagun without even reading the synopsis. I just saw that I can watched this one dub, so I dive in immediately.

The plot was really interesting and infairness, the progressed of the story was solid. The anime started with an intro as to how the main girl, Shio, was Oda Nobunaga’s descendant and how different she was compared to her classmates. Out of nowhere aliens attacked, and bruh, full pack action sequences. And it didn’t stop there, the anime continues to surprise me with alot of interesting factors like unique colour scheme of the overall art, the solid animation, the strategies the characters incorporate all through out the series. Damn, I’m hooked.

I love how the other important characters were introduced too. They look so cool and badass. The other characters are also descendants of historical/memorable figures too, like Jack the Ripper & Isaac Newton. It reminds me alot of Drifters, except that the Drifters anime starred the historical/memorable figures themselves.

Definitely, Nobunagun didn’t just shine cuz of its interesting premise, but also cuz of their characters.

The main character, Shio, is the descendant of Oda Nobunaga. She originally is a shy girl with a low self-esteem. because she knows people thinks she’s a weirdo, she doesn’t interact much with others. The moment she unleashed her ‘powers’, her ancestor’s traits slowly get mixed up with hers. In a way she was able to develop self-confidence and leadership. Just like her, the other lead characters (mostly from DOGOO) are all descendants of crazy people. Cuz of that, the lead characters are somewhat crazy too. Don’t get me wrong, they have proper personalities. But because of their connection to their ancestors, they pretty much inherit the crazy traits. It was really fun to watch.

What added alot of flavor to the anime would be the unique art and character designs. The character designs were really unique and not generic. It’s a bit similar to the western 2D animation, but only for a tiny tiny bit. The color palette of the art reminds me of Shaft’s works but at the same time, its really really unique. At first it was a bit weird to look at, especially in the first few minutes of the episodes, but I got engrossed with it the moment the action came in. Oh damn, the animation, it looks so cool and awesome. The changing of colors fits well with the feel of the anime and the action scenes were really good. I totally don’t see any CG animations, and thank God for that. I just love it.

Anyway, I do want to point out about the series would be the shallowness of the enemy. The enemy are basically, beings who evolutions alot and are smarter than your average human being. We really dunno their purpose as to why they started to invade Earth. Without knowing the side of the enemies, its easy for the main characters to slaughter them as they are all seen harmful. I also want to point out where the hell did the bunny lookin’ statue that talks came from and where did she/he get her/his super super advance high technology that could travel across time. Dang.

Overall, this anime was really enjoyable to watch. I didn’t expect it would be this good. I might check out the manga of it soon.

I totally recommend this to everyone who just wants to binge-watch something. It’s really enjoyable and quite shocking too.

Anyways, that is all.
Thanks for reading!!
