Reading Time: 3 minutes

I always love to watch Detective Conan. So seeing theres so many DC-related series/ovas/movies fills my heart with happiness. I didn’t know I needed some Magic Kaito in my life. When this series was airing, I was still in the midst of marathoning the Detective Conan and was watching other series, so I wasn’t able to watch it real time. Recently, I was able to sit down, relax and enjoy an anime.
(PS: this series review was supposed to be published last year, but I forgot to post it. Lol.)
Here’s my thoughts:

The former thief was murdered by a criminal organization seeking a mythical stone called the Pandora Gem, said to shed a tear with the passing of the Valley Comet that comes every ten thousand years. When the tear is consumed, the gem supposedly grants immortality.
Vowing to bring those responsible for his father’s death to justice, Kaito dons the Phantom Thief’s disguise, stealing priceless jewels night after night to find the Pandora Gem before his enemies can use the power for themselves. (MAL)

My Thoughts:

I WANT MORE KAITO KID.

Yep, I really really like this series. Just like Detective Conan, everything about this series is giving me feels. Seeing Kaito having his own tv series feels too surreal. We get to see more of Kaito, his everyday life, and how he became into Kaito Kid.

I did notice some similarities with the first Magic Kaito series. The more I watched this 1412 series, the more I realize that this must be a ‘reboot’ of the old one. If I were to compare, of course the 1412 series is better. Both the animation and the storytelling is alot better than the previous version, but still, overall, the story is too okay. There was no “WOW” or something thats unpredictable that could blow off my mind. It would have been nice if theres more substance. Sometimes, I could definitely see the series as a Detective Conan series but with magic (tricks) involved.

The art & animation is, of course, the same as Detective Conan. Also the characters, they are quite similar to some of the characters in the Detective Conan. I think this made the series abit lackluster cuz theres nothing new to see. I do like the scenes when Detective conan characters do appear in this series. It makes the series abit more lively than the usual. Kaito & Conan’s rivalry is fun to watch.

I have so many things I like of this series, but it boils down to the fact that I already love the whole Detective Conan franchise. Cuz of my love for DC, I also love immediately everything that is connected to it. And Kaito Kid 1412 is one of them. Its enjoyable to watch, but you can’t expect too much from it. It offers the same stuff DC offers but with magic tricks.

I can’t really say if this is worth of your time. But I do know that I enjoyed watching this series.
That is all for now.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I love the DC episodes with Kaito Kid especially when he’s helping Shinichi/Conan (OMG THE JET BLACK TRAIN EP!!!), but I haven’t started watching Magic Kaito. Once I finish watching the DC episodes that I skipped, I’ll get on to it. 😀
And I sure wish their character designs weren’t so similar in a lot of ways. lol

  2. Glad you liked it! Magic Kaito (1412) is definitely one of my favorite animes of all time, so I’m always recommending to people, especially for anyone who is new to anime. Personally, I like MK more than Conan, but I think both series are amazing! Here’s to hoping Gosho Aoyama eventually finishes both of them! 🙂

      1. Yeah, I can’t wait to see how the end of DC turns out! I do highly recommend the MK manga though, as there are some chapters that haven’t yet been adapted into the anime. (The three most recent chapters were extremely good, including the events of Aoko nearly discovering Kaito’s identity as Kid).
