Koko wa Green Wood (Here is Greenwood): After Thoughts
This one is a throwback.
Kook wa Greenwood was released a long time ago, I’m pretty sure not many of you know this even exist.
I happen to stumble onto this on one of the famous illegal streaming sites. I wanted to watch something that was short but very enjoyable. And yeah, this one made my day amazing.
KOKO WA GREEN WOOD
Synopsis: Hasukawa Kazuya is in a terrible bind. His brother’s new wife is also the woman that Kazuya secretly loves. Determined to avoid them both, Kazuya leaves home to live in the student dorm called Greenwood. There, he hopes to find peace of mind. Unfortunately for Kazuya, stability and peace are the last things one might find at Greenwood – home of the weirdest characters on campus. (MAL)
Koko wa Greenwood follows Hasekawa as he starts his high school in an all-boys school. Rather than living at home, he decided to live in the dorms instead. The dorm was called Greenwood (hence, the title), and it just so happens that most and not all of the students living in the dorms are weirdo. In other words, the anime is about the students living in the Greenwood, focusing more on the 4 main characters. Yep, thats basically it. This anime is a slice-of-life with a mix of other genres you never guessed they would add. Lol.
I really had fun watching this one. Its only 6 episodes, and I never got bored, not even once. Through and through, its a freakin’ solid anime. Within those 6 episodes, was a solid writing, the pace was very stable all through out, and the comedy came out really really natural. This series felt like I’m watching a live-action sitcom. I totally love it.
One of the things I like from this series were the characters. Each main character had a significant role in the story. Each one of them was very lovable and each of them had their own arc. of course, my favorite out of all of them would be Hasekawa. He is such a kid, seeing him becoming a bit mature near the end was really nice to watch. I do like each one of them, but yeah, Hasekawa has a special place in my heart. Lol.
Another thing I like was the art. Bless the animators and people who did the art for this series. They are so classic and old-looking but its doesn’t also look too bad. I love it. The animation was very consistent all throughout, I have no bad things to say about it. Ah! Maybe the fact that almost all the characters seemed to have the same face. You can only recognise or differentiate them cuz of their hair colour and other stuff they put in their face. Hahahhaha.
Now that we are talking about the things I’m not fond of, I did find some problems in the length and story of the series. This series deserves a full season reboot. Cuz of time constraint, some scenes (like in episode 2) that it was clear that they skipped a lot of story material and just narrate WTF happen in just few minutes and lines. It was smart for them to do that, but my curiosity made me want to watch and see those scenes come to life. This made me realise that this series could offer more that what they are showing. I wanted more material from this series. Too bad, its only 6 OVA episodes. I might want to check out the manga, or the live-action movie (?!?!?!), but yeah, I want a full season of this anime.
Overall, this series is a must watch. I recommend it to everyone. This series is very short and very very enjoyable. Oh, by the way, I watched this one in English dub. The dubbers did and excellent job dubbing this series. So, I recommend to you guys to watch this in Dub. I promise, you won’t regret it.
That is all.
Thanks for reading.
