Kantai Collection + Movie Anime Review

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This is going to be very short anime review. I am kinda busy, as of the moment.

I watched this last year and made this entry few months ago. I tried to make this a little bit longer, but I am not much of a fan of this series so I couldn’t write more. Anyway, here are my thoughts of the series and the movie.

Synopsis: With the seas under constant threat from the hostile “Abyssal Fleet,” a specialized naval base is established to counter them. Rather than standard naval weaponry, however, the base is armed with “Kanmusu”—girls who harbor the spirits of Japanese warships—possessing the ability to don weaponized gear that allows them to harness the powerful souls within themselves. Fubuki, a young Destroyer-type Kanmusu, joins the base as a new recruit; unfortunately for her, despite her inexperience and timid nature, she is assigned to the famous Third Torpedo Squadron and quickly thrust into the heat of battle. When she is rescued from near annihilation, the rookie warship resolves to become as strong as the one who saved her. (MAL)

My Thoughts:

Okay. Watching this series was…okay. Did I enjoy watching this? Not much. But for some point, I wasn’t able to drop it. I actually finished this, even the movie. So nice of me.

Anyway. My thoughts?

This anime is not worth your time. Theres no definitive plot for the series. It tried to have one but its not strong enough. The worldbuilding was meh, and the pacing was not worth noting. And could someone explain to me the purpose of their fights?? They are fighting ‘corrupt’ warship girls without giving explanations. They did try to explain it on the movie, but meh, just like the lackluster story.

The characters were likeable at least. But…they are too many to memorize. I think most of you guys know that I tend to forget stuff (RIP memories, i am getting old), so taking notes of all the characters was a no-no. The main character was your typical girl protagonist that you see on other animes. Nothing special about her. The infamous character (and face of the anime/game), Kongou, was too weird. She acts like a girl with a screw loose at times, then became very serious on some fight moments. Very weird.

The art and animation is average at best. I really don’t like the 3D animation during the fight scenes, it looks weird and it doesn’t match well with the background. Even though some of the choreography of the fight scenes looks good, its kinda weird to look at.

With all of those thoughts out of my head, I can pretty much say that I don’t recommend this series. You’ll just reget it afterwards, like what I am doing now.

But if you still want to watch it, then so be it.

Anyway, that is all.

Thanks for reading.

The anime is made to actually just a please-r to the people who are aware of the browser game Kancolle (Kantai Collection) as such like myself who did (and grinded alot of time – _ -)
Its unavoidable when one does not play the game alone, so I kinda understand the feeling.

The anime is set in a creative manner where it may or may not attract non-players to play the game.
Its premise is set to which is based on things on the historic sections of ship warfare during the world wars, explaining why there are some references of history such as the ship Yamato, where she was not sent out to be sortied (reference is that Yamato is one of the known battleships that was only sortied a few times to which because of her consumption of resources)

TL;DR they just want to give out the foreshadowing of how history was, being allowing viewers to enjoy watching and refer them to the game/history.
