Hitsugi no Chaika S1: After Thoughts
I just started my job awhile ago. It wasn’t as stressful as I thought it would be, but it was tiring on my legs. It seems I need to get use to this more.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that even if I have a day job now, I will still blog…though my entries will be very inconsistent. The time for me to watch animes/tv series/ concerts definitely became smaller than the usual (I’m also studying for my licensure exam…hell yeah!), I won’t give up blogging.
Now that I put that out in the open, I am going to share my thoughts about this anime, which I had been watching this past few days.
HITSUGI NO CHAIKA
Synopsis: For 500 years, the Taboo Emperor, Arthur Gaz, ruled the Gaz Empire with an iron fist and conducted inhumane experiments on his own people. But his reign came to an end five years ago, when mighty warriors—later known as the Eight Heroes—defeated him in a battle for the capital. His death ended the 300-yearlong war between the Gaz Empire and the alliance of six nations. In the present day, Tooru Acura is a former saboteur from the war who has difficulty settling into the peaceful world, as he cannot find a job where he can put his fighting skills to use. An opportunity appears before him, however, when he meets a white-haired Wizard named Chaika Trabant. With a coffin on her back, she is searching for the scattered remains of her father in order to give him a proper burial, and she hires Tooru and his adoptive sister Akari to help her. However, the six nations alliance, which have now formed the Council of Six Nations, dispatches Albéric Gillette and his men from the Kleeman Agency to pursue and apprehend the late Emperor Gaz’s daughter—Chaika.
With the shocking revelation of Chaika’s identity, the Acura siblings must choose between helping her gather the remains of the tyrannical emperor and upholding the peace the continent strives to maintain.
I had seen this anime series during its airing, but I wasn’t able to finish it. I remember watching the last episode of this anime even though I wasn’t even halfway of the series. LOL. My past self is bad. Hahahahah.
Now, having to watch everything from start to finish, this anime is quite good and solid. It has a solid premise, interesting characters, and it’s also well-paced. Definitely a good series. I like how the story did not try to focus only to the main premise and make the series look like a typical adventure anime. I love how they added politics, manipulations, and betrayals to the story. It definitely made the series more interesting. I really really like how they did the revelations. The impact of it definitely made me confuse, but it also made me want to know the truth if it is really true or not. I won’t spoil to much, but the last few scenes in this series definitely made me open my mouth.
Some of the thinks that I didn’t like from the series were pretty much very very very minor issues. One of them would be the lackluster fighting scenes in the last few episodes of the series. Dunno why, I just feel it wasn’t enough or it didn’t have enough ‘boom’ to make me be intrigued to those scenes. I was more focused on Laila and Chaika. Another would be the music. I’m not a fan of the OP and ED of the series, especially the ED. I just find it irritating in my ears, while the OP was forgetful. Other than those I mentioned, I have no more problems with this series.
The characters were really interesting and definitely made the anime better than it should be. Each of them were really memorable. I really really like how sassy and awesome Fredirica is. She’s definitely best girl here. I first liked Akari, but she’s too in love with her ‘brother’ to a point I don’t see much character development from her. Her ‘brother’, Tooru, on the other hand, have grown all throughout the series. Him from being a lazy ass to a brave warrior who protects his master (also love and care for her…ooohohohoho) definitely was nice to watch. He’s also really badass, especially when he goes ‘berserk’ mode. Both him and Akari are clearly no OP characters, but cuz they are smart and well-trained Sabotuer, they definitely go on head to head with the enemies. All of the Gillette squad members were very interesting. Even though they are on the other side of the team, they definitely are not enemies. I hope I’ll see more of them in the next season.
Now, for the main character, Chaika, uuuhhhhh, she’s my least favorite character. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean that I don’t like her, she’s just the last on my list of fav characters in this series. I find her character and personality too common and kinda boring. She’s like representing a specific archetype, the kind one. I know, I know. Her personality is one of the key factors of the series, I know that. But still, I’m not a fan. The other chaika’s also represents a different kind of archetype of personality, even them, I’m not much of a fan. Maybe I’ll grow to like them in the next series.
The art and animation is definitely good. Bones did it again. They never fail. The fluidity of the animation during the fight scenes is really nice to watch. Even the character design of the characters looks on point, really good to look at.
Overall, the series is great for bingewatching. It’s easy to watch even though the revelations in the later half of the series could definitely make your mind go haywire for a minute (only for a minute), it’s still easy to watch. Judging this one after only seeing the first season is a bit incomplete, still I recommend you to watch this one. Its not the best series out there, but it definitely hold up as one of the good and enjoyable ones. Can’t wait for the 2nd season. Gonna adjust my watching schedule for it. Hheheehhehe.
Anyway, that is all.
Thanks for reading!!
