HaruChika – Haruta to Chika wa Seishun suru Anime Review
However, Chika’s high school life just won’t go according to plan, as mysteries begin appearing around her and her friends. The club members must work together to solve the mysteries plaguing the school, all while trying to find more members to compete in musical competitions. (MAL)
Haruchika was released almost a year after Hibike Euphonium. With the success of Hibike Euphonium, everyone (also me) was expecting it to be like the predecessor, but its not. If I could describe HaruChika in animes, I would say its a combi of Hyouka & Hibike Euphonium. A fusion of 2 KyoAni favs of mine. Damn.
The story revolves around Haru and Chika, both are members of the band, tries to solve ‘weird’ and sometimes random mysteries surrounding the school. Did I enjoy it? I did….ish. The whole series left me wanting more. It was too short for me. It would be nice if they have more interesting mysteries to solve while also showcasing the musical side of the anime. The way they handled the mysteries was alright, I do wish they didn’t make Haru too smart. He seems to have the answer to everything. The musical portion of the series was a bit lacking for me. I wanted to see more of it, though I do like the episodes when there is a mystery within their club. The fusion between the genres was really fun to watch.
I really really like both Haru & Chika. I did wish Haru to be straight and go for Chika, but I do like the idea of them fighting over their love for Sensei, it added a lot of new & interesting flavor to the series. I also like the some tidbits of character developments from the characters. Cuz of its episodic-ish nature, there is quite alot of interesting characters and they do get there time on the spotlight, enough to make you notice them.
The art & animation done by PA works were decent and for some point, it fits well with the story. When I first saw the trailer & PV of this series, I was kinda hesitant cuz the art was kinda new to me & the color scheme seems too bright. But I adjust to it, and liked it. The animation was really good too. Though, there were some shots of the musical instruments that I don’t like (I had seen the best from Hibike Euphonium so…) but it was okay.
Overall, the series is good. Its enjoyable and very interesting. And Importantly, Its watchable. LOL. Hahahah.
If your a fan of Hyouka & Hibike Euphonium, then this show is definitely right on your alley. Though the animation is not on par with Kyoto Animation (too high standard), its still decent to watch and waste your free time on.
Anyway, thats it for now.
Thanks for reading.
