Golden Kamuy: After Thoughts
Golden Kamuy was the anime I didn’t know I was craving for. It surprised the hell out of me. I didn’t expect that I needed this type of anime. I mean, if you look at my anime review here in my blog, my entries tend to lean on slice-of-life animes and some ecchi ones too. Never had this kind before, and its really refreshing.
Can’t wait to share my thoughts about it. 🙂
Golden Kamuy is an anime full of action, gore, and it has a really good premise where you can’t predict the outcome. I love it. At first look, this series looks like a serious anime, but it actually has comedy moments that was on point. It was a shocker at first, but the blend of the two opposite genres was really done. It made me enjoy watching this series more.
Like I said above, the premise was really good. It laid a good foundation for the story to grow more. In turn, the story became more intriguing and interesting. I couldn’t even predict the next scenarios. It’s that good. The pacing was consistent too. Even the worldbuilding was done well. It wasn’t laid out immediately in the first episode, but it was well explained all through out the series. I couldn’t take my eyes off the series while watching, it was that engaging.
The characters were really memorable, especially the main and lead characters.
I really like Sugimoto and Asirpa. As partners and individually. They compliment each other and help each other grow. I really don’t see them as a couple though, but it seems they might end up together. After all, there were alot of subtle moments to back up that sentiment.
The villains in this series were really terrifying, and they are…ALOT. It made this series more intense and intriguing, knowing that there’s so many players in this game of treasure hunting. Cuz of this, the series became alot more complicated and I love it.
The characters were alot, I didn’t expect that. I kinda predicted in the beginning that they would meet alot of new characters along the way until they find the treasure, but I didn’t expect them to be relevant in the story. They weren’t just a one-time off characters, each one of them had a purpose. This made the series more interesting.
What made the characters more memorable was their interesting character designs and the art style of the overall series. The designs seemed to look alot like the source, so that’s a plus. This series’ manga was known for its goreness, and this anime didn’t shy away from that. It went full force, bruh. I didn’t find any censorship all through out the series, only some few camera angle techniques to lessen the gore shown on screen.
It wasn’t just the gore that stood out, it was also the amazing facial expressions made by the characters. The faces the characters’ make were really hilarious it cracked me up…so bad.
I think I can’t finish talking about the animation until I mention the CG used in the series. I think it was around the first episode’s airing, when the anime community lost their shit cuz of the “Bad CG” of Golden Kamuy. Personally, I didn’t mind the CG at all. I was enjoying the hell out of the series, the CG was just a small portion that’s why it didn’t affect me in any way. I also think Geno studio tried their best to minimize the CG, so that the series wouldn’t look bad.
Overall, Golden Kamuy was really enjoyable and fun to watch. The action thrilling scenes were my favorite and it got me on the edge of my seat. The funny moments didn’t disappoint too. You have no idea how much I crack everytime the characters display weird facial expressions. This series is definitely a must watch.
Ah! This series is getting a season two, and it will air this fall. I’m definitely gonna watch that. Ooohohohooh.
Thanks for reading!!
