Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san: Quick Thoughts

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Last season was one of the best season of anime. Almost all the animes released were quite good and were enjoyable to watch. I haven’t watched all of them yet, but I did, however, watched this hidden gem, Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san.

Synopsis: The comedy manga’s story centers on a skeleton named Honda who works in a bookstore. Hilarity ensues daily in his work at the shop’s manga counter.

I really enjoyed this anime. Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san was a short anime that everyone didn’t expect to love.

As I was doing my usual rounds of watching the first episodes of the seasonal animes when I discovered this anime. It’s been awhile since I enjoy any short formed animes so this Honda-san anime was a breather from the norm.

I find the story really nice. I always had dreamt on becoming a staff of a bookstore before (me and my weird goals in life), so seeing an anime about it made me happy. The anime showed me what its like to work in a japanese bookstore, exaggerated or not. From giving customer service up to stocking up the books, watching this anime was an enlightenment. Lol.

But what made me like the series more was on how they handled the censoring of the known titles in manga and LN. I mean, it can’t be helped that they’ll be mentioned. Rather than renaming it, they just censor 1 syllable of the name. It’s funny cuz you can still tell what they were saying no matter the censoring. Lol. I also love the exaggeration of the characters on some mundane situations. It adds alot of fun to it and it made the scenes more “anime”.

The characters were really likeable too. Each one of them are different and relatable in alot of ways. Though I wasn’t able to take note their names other than Honda-san, their character designs were really unique and noteworthy.

Overall, I really enjoyed this anime and I’m abit sad that its only 1 season. I wish I could see more of it as having a short format works so well with this anime.

I totally recommend this to everyone. 😀

Thanks for reading!!

I’ve worked in and owned a used and rare bookstore. rewarding and fun, yes… But also a helluva lot of work, nothing like I’d imagined.

Oh, certainly! It’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. It just wasn’t anything like I expected.
