Free! Dive to the Future: Quick Thoughts
Spread the love

After seeing the prequel movie of Free, I thought I wouldn’t see anymore of this franchise but here we are, another Free anime.

Yay. More half-naked guys swimming. And more water animation porn.

Cool.

Jokes aside. After the movie, I didn’t expect any from this franchise anymore. I thought it had offer everything it could give, but it seems this franchise is not stopping yet as a new season was announce and it will be released on 2020. Olympics 2020. Coincidence? Lel, I don’t think so.

Anyway, I won’t prolong this longer, here’s my thoughts about the new anime.

Synopsis: In the new series, Haruka, who is attending college in Tokyo, meets Asahi again and reawakens his memories from his middle school years, including those of Ikuya. Makoto is working toward a new dream while he is in Tokyo together with Haruka. Rin has an unexpected meeting in Sydney. As they await their new futures, will they see a new fight ahead? Or will they instead confront the past they left behind? (MAL)

For this new season of Free, it follows the main characters as they become college students and reunite with their old pals. It was nice to see all of the relevant characters from the previous seasons and the movie come together in one series. It was also nice to see them reminisce and bond like brothers. And of course, drama is also here.

It seemed that there was an issue after the happenings in the movie which put a rift into the friendship between Ikuya, Makoto, Haru and Asahi. Good thing, it was then resolved in the middle of the anime, as I might throw a fit if they prolong it alot more. I mean, there was never a fight between them but it was more of no ones talking with each other. No one dared to understand each other. Anyway, atleast everything was resolved.

I do find the next arc abit weird. Compared to the Ikuya arc that was well paced, the remaining episodes felt like a rollercoaster ride of happenings. It would have been nice if these episodes were also well-paced and had a good ending. The last episode didn’t feel like the last one so it was hard to take it seriously. I know that they plan to release another sequel to this, but they should have end this season better.

Overall, this anime was a good continuation to everything in Free. I enjoyed it well, even though the drama in the Ikuya arc did annoy me. Still, it served a purpose and now, everything is ready for the next season on 2020.

Thanks for reading!
