Burst Angel Anime Review

Reading Time: 4 minutes

A few weeks ago, I made a post about animes I dropped. Most of the animes that I dropped were shows that didn’t appeal to me, even though I tried my best to like them. Still, I admit, I saved some shows from being dropped. One of them is the anime, Burst Angel. Seeing that I am making an entry about it, that means I finished this one. Barely.

I really don’t understand myself.

I mean, compared to the animes I dropped from my previous post, I actually put more effort in this show. And bruh, its sucks. This anime is not worth it.

Burst Angel sucks.

Woah, bold statement from me. Heh.

I just can’t help it.

It was such a disappointment that its hard to contain it anymore.

Like i said in my intro, I dropped alot of animes and yet I didn’t drop this one. Why? I dunno.

When I first watch this, I saw some potential. I mean, the negative points were on my face already, art & animation wise, but I let it slide cuz I felt like there was something more to this series. Indeed, there was something. -_-

The story focused on a team of badass girls as they try to fight off crimes on the street of Tokyo. In the first episode, a cook, who is a guy (why am I not surprised!?!..) was introduced. I really thought he’s someone important (but he is not). I mean, if you read the synopsis, he’s mentioned and yet, he’s like an extra useless person in the anime. Anyway, let’s focus again to the badass girls. The girls, on surface level, they are amazing. Bruh, they have a leader who is loaded and a rich heiress, their youngest is a legit genius hacker,  a silver haired inhuman badass and….a visual. Each one of them play a role in the team and they work so well with each other. Still, these points are not enough to make this series interesting.

Okay, let me give you the negative points.

First, the story.
WTF is this story?!?!?! Plot-wise, this anime was interesting at best and had a chance to grow into something more. BUT!!! Everything was incoherent until the very end. In the first half, the anime proceeded with the usual episodic formula that we are familiar with, while hinting about the main plot of the story bit by bit. With this kind of move, the story wasn’t able to move as fast as it needed to be. At the end of the first half, the story then unfolds into something weird and out of nowhere, I was on the verge of dropping. Still, I continued on.

The 2nd half was alot better than before as the main story starts to roll. However, because of the wasted time, the latter half was a mess. The pacing of the story was so inconsistent, it was hard to understand everything that was going on. Right now, I think I get the plot, but the ending makes me think otherwise.

Because of this f*cked up story, it also affected the development of the characters. Yes, I did say above that the main girls are “badass”, but that’s…all. Their development was also all over the place just like the story, though I could say except for Jo, as she is the main protagonist of the anime. Jo’s development was subtle in the first half, but she’s heavily focused on the latter half. While the others, well….Meg comes close to second…I think. During the first half, she showed how useless she was but I do admit that I was able to find her quite useful in the 2nd half.

This just shows how a story could affect the characters. In other words, the writing of this anime SUCKS.

Another negative point would be the art & animation.
I wasn’t supposed to add this in here as its quite understandable as to why it looks subpar, but I guess I’m just disappointed. I mean, this anime was made by studio Gonzo, so I was kinda hoping for at least some consistency, but nah…what I got is far from it. Though, I do wanna commend the studio for implementing the 3D animated mechas properly.

Overall, this anime was a total disaster. I am now regretting giving this anime a chance and even finishing it until the very end. I kinda feel like I wasted alot of time on this anime. Sigh.

I can’t really say I enjoyed watching this one. The whole time, I just want to fast forward the story and finish it as fast as I can cuz it was that bad.

Would I recommend this?? Nope.

Would I rewatch this in the future?? Nope. I don’t wanna waste more time on this.

Anyway, that is all for now.

Thanks for reading.
