Asobi Asobase: Quick Thoughts

Synopsis: Hanako, an athletically proficient, yet thick-headed student with a weird fashion sense, plays a game with the American transfer student Olivia. However, their vigor irritated their classmate Kasumi who dislikes playing games since she has always been teased by her sister for being bad at them. With a turn of events, it was found out that Kasumi is terrible at English. Thus, she asked her foreign classmate Olivia to help her, but Olivia, who is only born and raised in Japan with foreign parents, can’t actually speak English at all! Watch over these three girls’ surreal school-life comedy. (MAL)

Asobi Asobase was one of the first animes I watched last season. Like many others, I really thought this anime would follow the typical “cute girls doing cute things in school” trope that usual Moe Slice of Life School Comedy anime follows. But no, they took the crazy route. As in, hella outrageous crazily insane route.

What made this series really really fun to watch would be the mundane to surreal scenarios and how the characters (specifically the leads) react to them. The characters makes alot of crazy facial expressions and exaggerated expressions to counteract the situations they are in. These reactions are hella funny and crazy, and its comedic timing is genius. And I thought Hinamatsuri got the best reactions this year, Nope, hands down, this series is number 1.

As the story is relatively very simple (and is totally nothing), its the job of the characters to make a series amazing. The main characters in this series: Hanako, Olivia, & Kasumi were really crazy. I can’t believe I would see these type of characters come to life. LOL. On face value, the main girls looks really feminine and cute, so you would have initial impressions that they would be full of moe and act like the “typical” school girls. But no…they throw those initial impressions away once they unless their inner BEASTS. Uuugghhh…THEY ARE SO AMAZING. This contrasts of personality pretty much shouts that girls are not that shallow. They are crazier and are BEASTS when triggered. XD

Overall, well, I love this series.

Asobi Asobase never fails to lightened up my day everytime I watched it. It doesn’t just fail to make me laugh and I really had fun watching it all through out summer.
I totally recommend this to everyone. You won’t regret, I promise.

Thanks for reading!
