Animes I dropped this 2018 Summer Anime Season

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Yo! Yo! Yo!
Sirius here.

We are now at the last month of the Summer season. As you can see from my blog, I haven’t been…uhhhh..actively sharing to you guys what animes I had been following from this summer season. Well, I only have one answer to that. And that would be NONE. Yeah, my studies had been torturing me so I can’t really do the usual “first impressions” or “seasonal updates”. It’s a bummer, I know.

I recently got sick due to overworking and stress. Heh. Which forced me to stay at home and rest. I used that time to relax my mind and take a few days break from studying. Rather than rolling around my bed and be hella bored, I watched a couple of episodes from all the animes released this summer season.

I watched the first 3-5 episodes of the animes to determine if I should keep it on my PTW list, or should I dropped it. Ooooohohohohohoh, I droppped alot.

Compared to the other seasons this year, this summer season is the most diverse. However, it’s also less spectacular. The immense amount of mediocre animes this season overpowered the above average animes. Still, not all mediocre animes are bad. I haven’t seen all of the episodes, so there is still a chance some of them excel and becoming amazing.

For now, let me show you the animes I dropped and also give you the reasons why I dropped them.

I think almost everyone dropped this anime. Hahahahah. I tried, everyone, I really did. But this series can’t even save itself. It’s so boring to a point that its bad. The anime has alot of nice background, but I can only appreciate them if it’s still. The characters are bland, the story is…uuuhhh…I don’t know….was there any in the first place? Dropped.

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria
Believe me or not, I enjoy watching isekai animes. But as human, I can only handle much of it. This anime is horrible. I really thought I had seen the worse of modern isekai animes, but nope, it evolved to much worse. Everything is horrible bruh, from the story to the characters to the animation. Finishing the first episode took alot of me, but I fully dropped it in the middle of the 2nd episode. Female characters started calling the MC either as father or big brother then go gaga over him. WTF!!! How could a light novel like this get an anime adaptation?!?!? Dropped.

Jashin-chan Dropkick
I’ll be honest, I really like the first episode of this series. But! After seeing the rest of it, it became boring and repetitive. I think if this series was atleast 12-15 minutes long, rather than a complete 22-25 minutes, then I might’ve enjoyed this one. But for now, its a drop.

Joshiochi!: 2-kai kara Onnanoko ga… Futtekita!?
…of course this is a dropped anime. duh.

Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san
Uuuhhhhh…I’m definitely not the target demographic of this anime. I still tried to watch it.
The story is the typical Slice-of-life which made it very generic and boring. The art & animation is bland too. Can’t watch this anymore.

Lord of Vermilion: Guren no Ou
This anime is a mess. I didn’t understand WTF was going on in the first episode. Though I was able to come up with a theory in the 2nd, it wasn’t enough to keep me hook up with the anime. The fight scenes looks horrible and the characters are too stiff and boring. I do like the character designs of them, but the animation sucks and hard to watch. Totally drop.

Muhyo to Rouji no Mahouritsu Soudan Jimusho
This one came late and premiered around August. I watched its first episode and unexpectedly, I really liked it. But the consecutive episodes was too much of a downer, I don’t think I could continue watching this one. I might rewatch this one in the future, but for now, its a drop.

Phantom in the Twilight
For this season, there is seemed to be alot of shoujo animes coming out, not that I’m complaining or anything. Still, I can’t helped to be disappointed after knowing that most of them are pretty much mediocre. One of them this this anime, Phantom in the Twilight. You have no idea how excited was I watching the first minutes of the series, I immediately recognizes one of my fav VA’s voice. Kana Hanazawa voiced the main character, and as always, she does it well. But her voice couldn’t save this anime’s mediocrity. I mean, the premise is quite interesting, but the characters were really bland and the stiff animation. I feel sorry for the heroine’s bff cuz she’s always the target of the enemies. LOL. Dunno if I might check this one again in the future. We’ll see.

Yume Oukoku to Nemureru 100-nin no Ouji-sama
From one shoujo anime to another. This anime is quite similar with the one above. It had interesting premise, but this time, the heroine is getting on my nerves. She’s boring and had pretty low-esteem. The character design of the lead characters looks great but, the animation didn’t utilize it well. Again, it was too stiff and low-budgeted. Just like Phantom, I might check this one out in the future, but for now, its a drop.

Ongaku Shoujo (TV)
Don’t get me wrong, I love idol animes but this series is the worst one yet. Everything looks low-budgeted. The CG is hurting my eyes. And seeing that characters being given atleast one line each so that they’ll be part of the conversation and LOW-KEY introduce them is soooo BAD. Yep, its a drop.

This was one of the first animes I had seen this season, and also the first one to be dropped. I like animes with alot of beautiful guys, I’m a girl after all. But seeing a female character being voiced by CLEARLY a male voice actor, is not what I need from an anime. I was so turned off by it, I don’t think I could watch a whole series hearing that character talk. Yeah, that’s the reason I dropped this one.

Tsukumogami Kashimasu
Compared to most of the animes I dropped, this was a good one. It’s just that, I don’t think I am the target audience of this anime and for some point, I find it boring. It’s not bad, but I’m just not interested with it.

Those are all the animes I dropped. Yeah, its alot. You might think I might be just nitpicking them, but I just can’t watch them right now.

Now, for the rest of animes this season, expect them to be featured soon in my After Thoughts anime review series.
That is all for now. Thanks for reading!!

Phantom in the Twilight did start off pretty meh and it still isn’t exceptional by any means, however it is one of the few anime I’m really enjoying this season. Somewhere around episode 4 it just kind of seemed to find its groove and I’ve really had fun with it.

I also dropped Island, Guren no Ou and Senjuushi. They’re just bad.
As for Phantom of the Twilight and the 100 Sleeping Princes, I’ve only watched the first episodes and although they seem really cliche, I’m actually willing to continue… someday.
I actually love Tsukumogami Kashimasu though. I think it’s a super cute mystery type. It’s not for everyone, I guess.
As for everything else on your list except Valkyria, never heard of them XD
    Thanks for sharing!
